Wang Yi Holds Talks with Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan of Armenia

On May 26, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan of Armenia in Yerevan.

Wang Yi said that China regards Armenia as an important cooperative partner in Eurasia, adding that bilateral relations have maintained sound and stable development since the establishment of diplomatic relations. China never interferes in Armenia's domestic affairs, always supports the choice of the Armenian people and appreciates the Armenian side for adhering to the One-China policy and respecting China's core interests and major concerns. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan of Armenia recently came to China attending the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations, and he reached important consensus with Chinese leaders on the development of bilateral relations. The Chinese side is willing to make concerted efforts with the Armenian side to ensure the implementation of the consensus and take the opportunity of joint construction of the Belt and Initiative to strengthen bilateral cooperation in such areas as economy, trade, production capacity, high and new technology, mineral exploitation, and infrastructure construction. Both sides should reinforce mutual support and jointly oppose unilateralism and protectionism against the backdrop of complex and volatile international situation; enhance security cooperation and fight against the East Turkistan Islamic Movement and other terrorist organizations; carry out mutual learning of different civilizations and oppose "clash of civilizations"; and propel regional cooperation, integrate the Belt and Road Initiative with construction of the Eurasian Economic Union in an in-depth way, help Asian countries develop and boost interconnectivity.

Zohrab Mnatsakanyan expressed that Armenia and China are both ancient civilizations and share a long-standing friendship. The two countries have always understood and respected each other, enjoyed smooth development of bilateral relations and reaped remarkable fruits in bilateral and multilateral cooperation since the establishment of diplomatic relations. The Armenian side attaches importance to China's position and role as a major country, firmly adheres to the One-China policy, and will continuously support the Chinese side in safeguarding its core interests and major concerns. No matter what may happen in its domestic situation, Armenia will always give priority to developing its relations with China. Armenia congratulates China on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, admires China's enormous development achievements and is willing to deepen cooperation with China to realize common development. The Armenian side stands ready to integrate its own development strategies with the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative in an in-depth way, as well as work together with the Chinese side to deepen cooperation in fields including economy, trade, investment, agriculture, production capacity, high and new technology and infrastructure construction, so as to make contributions to regional development and prosperity.

After the talks, the two Foreign Ministers signed a number of bilateral agreements including the agreement between the two governments on mutual visa exemption for holders of ordinary passports.
