Wang Yi Meets with Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov of Azerbaijan

On the afternoon of September 19, 2018, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Tianjin with Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov of Azerbaijan, who was here to attend the Summer Davos Forum.

Wang Yi expressed that China-Azerbaijan relations have maintained healthy and stable development with close high-level exchanges between the two countries and remarkable cooperation results. The Chinese side highly appreciates the mutual support of the two sides on issues involving respective core interests. The Chinese side supports the Azerbaijani side in taking over the rotating presidency of the Non-Aligned Movement next year, and is willing to work together with the Azerbaijani side to safeguard the interests of developing countries and international justice. The Chinese side highly appreciates that the Azerbaijani side has actively participated in and supported the Belt and Road Initiative, and is willing to work with the Azerbaijani side to advance connectivity of Eurasia. The two sides should intensify people-to-people and cultural exchanges in such fields as education, culture and tourism to enhance bilateral friendship. The two sides should strengthen security cooperation and create a favorable environment for their respective development.

Elmar Mammadyarov noted that Azerbaijan and China have enjoyed a high degree of political mutual trust and constantly advanced cooperation in various fields. The Belt and Road Initiative put forward by the Chinese side is full of wisdom. Azerbaijan regards itself as a part of the Initiative. The Azerbaijani side will take over the rotating presidency of the Non-Aligned Movement next year, and stands ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation on multilateral occasions with the Chinese side.
