On June 20, 2023, Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu met with Assistant to the First Vice-President of Azerbaijan on Foreign Affairs Elchin Amirbayov.

Ma Zhaoxu said that President Xi Jinping and President Ilham Aliyev held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the Samarkand Summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, showing a clear direction for the long-term development of China-Azerbaijan relations. China is ready to work with Azerbaijan to follow the blueprint drawn by the two heads of state, enhance political mutual trust, promote high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, strengthen communication and coordination on international affairs, and bring the China-Azerbaijan friendly and cooperative partnership to a new level.

Elchin Amirbayov said that Azerbaijan attaches great importance to China's influence as a responsible major country, and stands ready to join hands with China to implement the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state, strengthen cooperation in various fields, and work for continuous development of Azerbaijan-China relations.
