On May 25, 2007, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Li Hui attended a reception hosted by the Georgian Embassy in China to mark Independence Day of Georgia and the 15th anniversary of China-Georgia diplomatic ties, at which Li and Georgian Ambassador to China Mikheil Ukleba delivered speeches respectively. Georgian State Minister for Civil Integration Zinaida Bestaeva, who is on a China visit, also attended the reception.

In his remarks, Li said in recent years the Georgian people, through their unremitting efforts, have made continuous achievements in building the country. China is delighted at such achievements made by Georgia. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the two countries, bilateral relations have been developing smoothly, with frequent top-level visits, growing political trust, vigorous development of cooperation in pragmatic fields such as economy and trade and expanded humanistic exchanges, said Li. China has always respected Georgia's independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity and understands the road of social development chosen independently by the Georgian people based on their national realities, he said. Li appreciated Georgia's firm support for China on the major questions concerning Taiwan and Tibet and pledged that China is ready to join hands with Georgia to make unremitting efforts for in-depth development of bilateral ties.

Ukleba spoke highly of fruitful development of friendly cooperative ties since the establishment of diplomatic ties 15 years ago, stressing that to develop ties with China is a priority of Georgia's foreign policy. Georgia is ready to take the opportunity of the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties to push forward bilateral relations.
