President Hu Jintao Exchanges Congratulatory Messages with Georgian Counterpart on 20th Anniversary of Diplomatic Ties

On June 9, 2012, Chinese President Hu Jintao exchanged congratulatory messages with his Georgian counterpart Mikheil Saakashvili to mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In his message, Hu said that over the past 20 years, friendly cooperative relations between China and Georgia have moved forward constantly and steadily. Both sides have maintained friendly exchanges and their cooperation in the fields of economy and trade, culture, education and science and technology has been expanding and fruitful. China and Georgia have maintained communication and coordination within the framework of multilateral mechanisms, such as the United Nations, and have enhanced mutual understanding and cooperation, Hu said. China values its ties with Georgia and is ready to take the opportunity of the 20th anniversary of diplomatic ties to promote the friendship between the two peoples, facilitate exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in various fields, and continue to advance their relationship, Hu said.

Saakashvili said in his message that Georgia and China have carried out fruitful cooperation on the basis of mutual respect and common interests. He expressed the belief that with increasingly close non-governmental, political, economic and trade ties, bilateral relations will continue to grow and the mutually beneficial bilateral cooperation will be further deepened.

On the same day, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi also exchanged congratulatory messages with his Georgian counterpart Grigol Vashadze.
