Wang Yi Holds Talks with Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani of Georgia

On May 24, 2019 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with Foreign Minister David Zalkaliani of Georgia in Tbilisi.

Wang Yi said that China has always been developing friendly cooperative relations with countries around the world based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence, supporting the people of all countries in selecting the development paths that suit them, and respecting the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of all countries including Georgia. China wishes Georgia faster development and its people a better life, and hopes that the Georgian side can improve its relations with its neighbors and create a favorable external environment to this end.

Wang Yi said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Georgia, bilateral relations have developed steadily. My visit to Georgia is a friendly journey and I wish to inherit and carry forward the traditional friendship between the two countries and give them new connotations in the new era. My visit is also a journey of listening and I would like to listen to the views of the Georgian side on internal and external affairs to enhance mutual understanding. And my visit is as well a journey of exploration for the two countries finding new space for mutually beneficial cooperation based on the existing cooperation results. China appreciates Georgia's active support and participation in the Belt and Road Initiative and is willing to take the opportunity of joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative as to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries. The Chinese side is willing to work with the Georgian side to be comprehensive and open trading partners to release the dividends of the China-Georgia free trade agreement and enhance economic and trade connections between the two countries; be equal and mutually beneficial investment partners to encourage more Chinese enterprises to invest and start business in Georgia; and be interconnected transport partners to help Georgia make use of its location advantages and become a bridge connecting Eurasia.

David Zalkaliani noted that the Georgian side always attaches great importance to developing relations with China and regards China as a sincere friend and reliable partner. The Georgian side is satisfied with the positive progress made in the cooperation between the two sides in recent years. The Georgian side will continue to firmly adhere to the One-China policy. The joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping is highly compatible with the strategy of making use of Georgia's own location advantages to build regional transportation hubs. The Georgian side will continue to improve the investment environment, welcome more Chinese enterprises which will invest and start business in Georgia. The Georgia side is willing to, in the process of the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, explore the potential of the China-Georgia free trade agreement, deepen the practical cooperation between the two countries, and strengthen the people-to-people and cultural exchanges, to promote the relations between two countries to a new level.
