Li Qiang Meets with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev

On the afternoon of October 17, 2023, Premier Li Qiang of the State Council met at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev who is in China to attend the third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation.

Li Qiang said that the China-Kazakhstan friendship has a time-honored history. In recent years, under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China-Kazakhstan relations have entered a period of fast development. A series of important common understandings have been reached during the meeting between President Xi Jinping and President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, which have provided a fundamental basis for building the next "30 golden years" of bilateral relations. China is willing to work with Kazakhstan to follow through on the common understandings reached by the two heads of state, further enhance mutual political support, continue the traditional friendship, deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, and move forward side by side on the road of their respective development and revitalization.

Li Qiang pointed out that China will, as always, firmly support Kazakhstan in following a development path suited to its national conditions. China is ready to work with Kazakhstan to seek a stronger synergy between the Silk Road Economic Belt development and the new economic policy of the Bright Road initiative, consolidate and extend traditional economic and trade cooperation in areas like agriculture and production capacity, actively expand cooperation in emerging areas such as 5G communications, big data, digital economy, artificial intelligence, and cross-border e-commerce. China will also work with Kazakhstan to continuously enhance connectivity at border ports, cross-border railways, and international land-sea multimodal transport, further strengthen people-to-people and cultural exchanges in areas such as culture, tourism, education, youth, film and television, and local affairs, and continue to play an exemplary and leading role in high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, so as to boost the development of the two countries and the region.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that Kazakhstan is a reliable friend and partner of China. Kazakhstan highly appreciates China's remarkable achievements in building socialism with Chinese characteristics and speaks highly of China's important role in promoting stable growth of the global economy. Kazakhstan firmly supports China in safeguarding its core interests, fully supports and actively participates in the Belt and Road Initiative proposed by President Xi Jinping, and is willing to deepen cooperation with China in various sectors including energy, economy and trade, investment, agriculture, science and technology, and connectivity, so as to take the permanent comprehensive strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and China to new heights.
