President of the Federated States of Micronesia Urusemal Meets with Li Zhaoxing

On July 30, 2006, President of the Federated States of Micronesia Joseph J. Urusemal met with Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing, who was on an official visit to the country.

Li said since China and Micronesia established diplomatic ties 17 years ago, bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation has scored positive achievements. The two sides have maintained frequent high-level contact with mutual political trust growing continuously, complemented each other for common development in the economic area and conducted sound consultation and cooperation in international and regional affairs. China appreciates the Micronesian government for adhering to the one-China principle. China is willing to continue to work with Micronesia to strengthen dialogue, build mutual trust, expand cooperation and pursue common development in a bid to push bilateral ties to a higher level.

Urusemal expressed satisfaction over the smooth development of bilateral ties. He said since the establishment of diplomatic ties between both countries, bilateral relations have been developing steadily with cooperation kept closer. The Micronesian government values bilateral relations and thanks for the Chinese government's support and assistance. It is ready to work with the Chinese side to actively implement the achievements of China-Pacific Island Countries Economic Development and Cooperation Forum and deepen exchanges in personnel and tourism. Urusemal reaffirmed his government's adherence to the one-China policy.

Li also held talks with his Micronesian counterpart Sebastian Anefal, exchanging views with him on bilateral ties and other issues of common interest.
