On September 11, 2012, Vice Premier Li Keqiang met with President of Micronesia Emanuel Mori, who was here in Yinchuan to attend the China (Ningxia) International Investment and Trade Fair and the 3rd China-Arab States Economic and Trade Forum.

Li conveyed President Hu Jintao's warm greetings and good wishes to Mori. Li said today coincides with the 23rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Micronesia. China treats its relationship with Micronesia from a strategic point of view and regards Micronesia as a good friend and partner in the Pacific island region. He said China is willing to work with Micronesia to strengthen cooperation in all fields, maintain high-level exchanges, enhance political mutual trust, provide support on issues of core interests and major concerns, and enhance coordination on international and regional issues.

Li pointed out that political trust is the cornerstone of bilateral relations and pragmatic cooperation is the pillar of the relations between the two countries. Noting that China and Micronesia are both developing countries, Li said the two countries should make use of their complementary advantages to expand pragmatic cooperation, speed up joint projects and people-to-people communication, and increase personnel exchanges so as to bring benefits to the two peoples.

Mori expressed condolences to the Chinese government and its people for the earthquake in Yiliang county in southwest China's Yunnan province. Mori said since the establishment of diplomatic ties 23 years ago, China's modernization drive has continuously made new achievements. He thanked for China's support to Micronesia over the years and said Micronesia will stick to the one-China policy and work with China to further promote bilateral relations.
