Foreign Minister Wang Yi Meets with Lord Tu'ivakano, Prime Minister, Minister for Defense and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Tonga

On July 23, 2013, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met at the Foreign Ministry with Lord Tu'ivakano, Prime Minister, Minister for Defense and Minister for Foreign Affairs of Tonga.

Wang Yi said, both China and Tonga are facing a long-term task of developing economy and improving people's livelihood. The two countries share broad common interests and large space for cooperation. China highly values the relations with Tonga and will always be a trustworthy friend of Tonga. Premier Li Keqiang and Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli reached important consensus with Your Excellency for the next-phase development of bilateral relations. China is willing to work with Tonga to implement the consensus and to develop sustainable and mutually-beneficial cooperation. The Chinese side is also willing to strengthen cooperation and coordination with Tonga on the Pacific Islands Forum and other international and regional affairs .

Lord Tu'ivakano said that the relations between Tonga and China have maintained good momentum. Tonga thanks China for the long-time support and help to Tonga. Tonga adheres to the One China policy and supports the peaceful reunification across the Taiwan Straits. Tonga is willing to strengthen cooperation and coordination with China on bilateral, regional and international affairs and to advance the bilateral relations for greater development.
