Li Zhaoxing Holds Talks with Foreign Minister of Vanuatu

On February 10th 2004, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing held talks with visiting Vanuatu Foreign Minister Moana Carcasses in Diaoyutai State Guest Hotel. The two sides exchanged views on China-Vanuatu relations and issues of common concern.

 

Li Zhaoxing said that currently development of China-Vanuatu relations were enjoying good momentum with exchanges and cooperation in various fields continuously expanded, noting that the Chinese government stands ready to increase high-level exchanges with Vanuatu, expand economic and trade cooperation and enhance coordination and cooperation in international and regional organizations in a bid to promote the bilateral relations to a higher level.

 

Li Zhaoxing also expounded the principled stance of the Chinese government on the Taiwan issue. Agreeing to Li Zhaoxing's review of China-Vanuatu relations, Carcasses thanked the Chinese government for its generous development assistance provided to Vanuatu over the years and hoped to expand exchanges and cooperation with China in such areas as economy and trade, agriculture, fishery and tourism.

 

Carcasses said that the government of Vanuatu would adhere to the one-China principle, an important part of its foreign policies.
