Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo Meets with Vanuatu's Foreign Minister Wells

On January 22, 2008, Vice Foreign Minister Dai Bingguo met with Vanuatu's Foreign Minister George Andre Wells in the Chinese foreign ministry. Both leaders exchanged opinions on the relations between China and Vanuatu and other issues of common interest.

Dai said that China-Vanuatu relations enjoy a sound development momentum and the bilateral exchanges and cooperation in various fields have achieved fruitful results. The Chinese government attaches great importance to the bilateral relationship and expects to maintain the high-level exchanges with Vanuatu, deepen the mutually beneficial cooperation in all fields and promote the development of bilateral ties. He expounded the principled position of the Chinese government on the Taiwan question and expressed admiration for Vanuatu's adherence to the one-China policy.

Wells said that Vanuatu and China enjoy robust relations. The government and people of Vanuatu are grateful to the Chinese government for its development assistance over the years and hope to expand the exchanges and cooperation with China in the economic, trade and other areas. He reiterated that the government of Vanuatu will continue to follow the one-China policy resolutely.
