On April 12, 2010, Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao held talks with Vanuatu Prime Minister Edward Natapei at the Great Hall of the People.

Wen said that Vanuatu has adhered to the one-China policy over the years and China has also offered disinterested assistance to Vanuatu. The two countries, as sincere friends and partners, have always respected each other and treated each other as equals. Wen said that China would continue to provide aid to Vanuatu without political strings attached for Vanuatu's economic development. Wen said China would help Vanuatu improve its people's livelihood, strengthen infrastructure construction and promote personnel training, so as to enhance the country's self-development capabilities. China would continue to encourage its enterprises to invest in Vanuatu and support exchanges at local levels and between peoples of the two countries, to inject new impetus to the development of China-Vanuatu relations, Wen said.

The developing countries, in particular the least developed countries, small island states and African countries, have suffered a lot from global issues including financial crisis and climate change, Wen said, calling on the international community to pay close attention to these countries' difficulties and appeals, fulfill its commitment earnestly and enhance coordination and communication, so as to promote the balanced and sustainable development of the world. Wen said, "China would continue making its due efforts to achieve these goals."

Natapei said that China is an important friend of the people of Vanuatu and has made precious contributions to promoting the country’s economic and social development. The cooperation between the two countries is fruitful with bilateral ties being strengthened continuously. Vanuatu cherished its friendship with China and would continue to adhere to the one-China policy, Natapei said, hoping that China would continue to help and cooperate with his country.

Natapei said Vanuatu thanked China for showing understanding and support for the development of Pacific small island states over the years and was ready to strengthen communication and coordination with China in addressing financial crisis and climate change.
