On April 27, 2015, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with visiting Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and External Trade Sato Kilman of Vanuatu.

Wang Yi expressed that since the establishment of China-Vanuatu diplomatic relations over 30 years ago, bilateral relations have achieved substantial progress. President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Joe Natuman successfully met twice in Nanjing and Nadi respectively last year, reaching multiple consensus on deepening bilateral relations and injecting new impetus into the development of bilateral relations. China always advocates that all countries are equal members of the international community regardless of their size. China attaches importance to developing relations with Vanuatu, and will, together with Vanuatu, by continuously upholding the spirit of mutual trust, mutual support, mutual benefit and win-win results, keep exchanges at high and all levels, deepen exchanges and cooperation in a wide range of areas including economy, trade, infrastructure construction, education, culture, and law enforcement, and strengthen communication and coordination in international and regional affairs, so as to promote bilateral relations for greater development.

Sato Kilman expressed that unswervingly advancing the relations with China is an established policy of the Vanuatuan government as well as the common consensus of all political parties of Vanuatu. Vanuatu will always be a reliable friend of China in the Pacific island region. Vanuatu wholeheartedly thanks China for its long-term selfless assistance to Vanuatu's economic and social development and for its valuable support to Vanuatu in fighting against the strong hurricane not long ago. Vanuatu will further learn from China's development experience, expand bilateral exchanges and cooperation in all fields and constantly push forward bilateral relations. Vanuatu sincerely welcomes China to play a greater role in affairs concerning the Pacific island region.
