President Beji Caid Essebsi of Tunisia Meets with Wang Yi

On May 13, 2016 local time, President Beji Caid Essebsi of Tunisia met at the Carthage Palace in Tunisia with visiting Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Beji Caid Essebsi asked Wang Yi to convey his greetings to Chinese leaders. Beji Caid Essebsi expressed that Tunisia and China share a long history of friendship. Tunisia is China's friend and China is also a great friend of the Tunisian people. He expressed welcome to Wang Yi's visit, which indicates positive willingness of both sides to further develop bilateral relations. It is believed that Wang Yi's visit will promote Tunisia-China relations to usher in new development. It is hoped that the two sides can strengthen exchanges at all levels, and discuss on expanding the scale of bilateral cooperation. He also welcomes more Chinese enterprises to invest in Tunisia, and play a significant role in Tunisia's infrastructure construction.

Wang Yi conveyed President Xi Jinping's regards to Beji Caid Essebsi. Wang Yi expressed that China and Tunisia enjoy a traditional friendship. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Tunisia over 50 years ago, bilateral relations have always maintained smooth development. China adheres to the principle of non-interference in other countries' internal affairs, and stands for equality among all countries. China is willing to see and support Tunisia to blaze a development path with Tunisian characteristics that conforms to its own national conditions and gains its people's support. Tunisia is a member of the League of Arab States and an important state in North Africa. China-Tunisia cooperation enjoys great potential and space. China stands ready to explore and expand approaches and areas of bilateral friendly cooperation with Tunisia, endeavor to expand bilateral trade and investment, and strengthen cooperation in such fields as infrastructure as well as production capacity.
