Wang Yi Holds Talks with Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui of Tunisia

On May 13, 2016 local time, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks in Tunisia with Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui of Tunisia.

Wang Yi noted that China and Tunisia have always been maintaining traditional friendship. Both countries have been respecting each other, treating each other as equals, understanding and supporting each other in issues related to respective core interests and major concerns. The Chinese side appreciates the Tunisian side for its great support and assistance in evacuating Chinese nationals from Libya, and stands ready to enhance exchanges at all levels with Tunisia and offer help in accelerating the economic development and improving people's livelihood in Tunisia within its capabilities. China encourages competent Chinese enterprises to invest in Tunisia and discuss on enhancing cooperation in infrastructure. It is hoped that Tunisia can provide a sound environment and convenience in this regard. Both sides can actively discuss on strengthening the alignment between both development strategies and launching production capacity cooperation by giving play to respective advantages, identify key cooperation areas and projects, and expand cooperation in agricultural product trade, tourism, infrastructure, public health, personnel training, anti-terrorism, security and other areas. It is hoped that the Tunisian side can take full advantage of the two collective cooperation platforms, namely Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and China-Arab States Cooperation Forum (CASCF) and expand the space for China-Tunisia cooperation. China stands ready to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Tunisia so as to jointly play a constructive role in the peaceful settlement of regional hotspot issues.

Khemaies Jhinaoui said that Tunisia and China have always enjoyed sound relations. China has a sound reputation in Tunisia and is respected and appreciated by the Tunisian people. The Tunisian side appreciates China's help and assistance in various areas, and hopes this visit can be an opportunity to enhance bilateral exchanges and cooperation at all levels. Tunisia welcomes the Chinese government and enterprises to actively participate in Tunisia's development plans, especially in the cooperation on infrastructure construction and other major projects, while expanding cooperation in such areas as investment, trade, medical care, tourism, culture, and personnel training. Tunisia hopes to intensify consultations between both Foreign Ministries and gain more benefit from the FOCAC and the CASCF.
