On July 26, 2019, President Xi Jinping sent a message of condolences to Acting President Mohamed Ennaceur of Tunisia over the passing away of President Beji Caid Essebsi. On behalf of the Chinese government and the Chinese people, as well in his own name, Xi Jinping expressed deep condolences over the passing away of President Beji Caid Essebsi and extended sincere sympathy to Beji Caïd Essebsi's family and the Tunisian people.

Xi Jinping said, President Beji Caid Essebsi was a prominent statesman of Tunisia. He led the Tunisian people in overcoming various challenges facing Tunisia's development, and made positive efforts in promoting stability and development in the country. President Beji Caid Essebsi committed himself to the further development of China-Tunisia relations, and he made positive contributions to the friendly cooperation of the two countries and friendship of the two peoples. The Chinese side attaches great importance to developing China-Tunisia relations and is willing to join efforts with the Tunisian side to push the friendly cooperative relations between China and Tunisia for constant development.

On the same day, Premier Li Keqiang sent a message of condolence to Prime Minister Youssef Chahed of Tunisia over the passing away of President Beji Caid Essebsi. He expressed deep condolences to the Tunisian government and extended sincere sympathy to President Beji Caid Essebsi's family.
