On July 10, 2023, Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun visited Tunisia, during which he met with Tunisian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad Nabil Ammar.

Zhai Jun said that China and Tunisia have a profound traditional friendship. Last December, President Xi Jinping had a productive meeting with President Kais Saied on the sidelines of the first China-Arab States Summit, drawing a new blueprint for the development of China-Tunisia relations. China is ready to take the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Tunisia as an opportunity to work with Tunisia to further implement important common understandings reached between the two heads of state, continuously substantiate friendly cooperation between the two countries and push for greater development of China-Tunisia relations.

Nabil Ammar said that the Tunisia-China friendship has a long history, and bilateral relations have maintained sound momentum of development in recent years. Tunisia attaches great importance to growing its relations with China, remains firmly committed to the one-China policy, and stands ready to further expand exchanges and cooperation between the two countries in various fields, so as to elevate bilateral relations to a higher level.

The two sides also had an exchange of views on regional hotspot issues, such as issues related to Libya and Syria, and the Palestinian question.
