Li Keqiang Holds Talks with President José Eduardo dos Santos of Angola, Stressing to Promote China-Angola Relations for Greater Development

In the morning of May 9 local time, Premier Li Keqiang held talks with President José Eduardo dos Santos of Angola at the Angolan Presidential Palace.

Li Keqiang expressed that China and Angola enjoy profound friendship. The Chinese side attaches great importance to China-Angola relations, considers Angola as an intimate friend and important partner in the cooperation with Africa, supports Angola in implementing the strategy of national governance with "development, stability and employment" as the core, and stands ready to continue the firm mutual support with the Angolan side, enhance inter-party exchanges and experience exchanges in governance and administration of state affairs, and ensure close coordination and cooperation in the international and regional affairs so as to promote greater development in bilateral relations.

Li Keqiang pointed out that the Chinese side is willing to work with the Angolan side to further strengthen the coordinating and leading role of the two governments in cooperation, enhance cooperation in the field of development planning and sign a bilateral investment protection agreement as early as possible; to promote China-Angola cooperation more and more driven by industry, continue to enlarge and solidify the brand of credit swap cooperation, and push ahead the practical cooperation in such fields as energy, infrastructure, finance, agriculture, urbanization and manufacturing industry; to discuss Angola as a hub to operate regional flights and facilitate interconnection and intercommunication in this region; to further intensify the frequent and close nongovernmental contacts and people-to-people and cultural exchanges so as to enhance the mutual understanding between the two peoples. The Chinese government encourages Chinese enterprises to invest and develop business in Angola and hopes that the Angolan side continues to provide convenience for Chinese investment and ensure the safety of Chinese institutions and personnel.

Dos Santos expressed that China is an important force in safeguarding peace and development of Africa and the world at large, and is Angola’s reliable friend and partner. The bilateral cooperation has yielded fruitful results and enjoys broad prospects. Further deepening of the Angola-China cooperation is crucial to the sustainable development of Angola. The Angolan side appreciates the long-term and valuable support offered by the Chinese side and stands ready to further expand mutually beneficial cooperation and to strengthen solidarity and cooperation in international and regional affairs. The Angolan side welcomes Chinese enterprises to expand investment in Angola and to actively participate in Angola’s economic and social construction, and will provide facilitation in this regard.

After the talks, the two leaders witnessed together the signing of bilateral cooperation documents in such fields as economy, technology, medical care, finance and personnel exchanges.

Prior to the talks, dos Santos held a grand welcoming ceremony for Li Keqiang at the Presidential Palace. The leaders of the two countries stepped on the reviewing stand. The military band played the national anthems of the two countries. Li Keqiang, in the company of dos Santos, reviewed the guard of honor.

Mme. Cheng Hong, wife of Premier Li Keqiang, and Mme. Anna, wife of President dos Santos attended the welcoming ceremony.

On the same day, Premier Li Keqiang and his wife Mme. Cheng Hong laid wreaths at the Agostinho Neto Museum, which commemorates the founding father of Angola.
