Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun Heads Delegation to Visit Botswana

From April 26 to 28, 2009, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhai Jun headed a delegation to visit Botswana at the invitation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Botswana.

During the visit, Zhai paid courtesy calls to Botswana's President Ian Khama and Vice President Mompati Merafhe. Zhai and Botswana's Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Phan Skelemani also held the political consultation between the two Foreign Ministries, exchanging in-depth views on bilateral ties and regional and international issues of common concern. Zhai and Skelemani signed an exchange of notes on providing material aid to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Botswana by the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. On the evening of April 26, Zhai also attended a welcoming banquet given by Skelemani.

Charge d'affaires ad interim Wu Jihong of the Chinese Embassy in Botswana, Zheng Zhuqiang, Counselor of the Department of African Affairs of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as Botswana's Deputy Finance Minister, Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture, and Permanent Secretary and Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation attended the above activities respectively.

Botswana National TV Station and Botswana News Agency covered and reported the visit.
