Foreign Ministries of China and Botswana Hold Political Consultations

On July 10, 2012, Chinese Assistant Foreign Minister Zhang Ming and acting Foreign Minister and Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration of Botswana Mokgweetsi Masisi held political consultations between the two Foreign Ministries.

Masisi said Botswana and China are strategic partners sharing common pursuit. In recent years, the two countries have carried out a series of important visits and conducted fruitful cooperation in the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. Botswana thanks for China's long-standing support for its economic and social development and appreciates China's efforts to help Africa achieve peace, stability and development. Botswana is willing to learn from China's experience in poverty reduction, agriculture, rural development and employment and further expand cooperation with China for the benefit of both peoples.

Zhang said China and Botswana enjoy a profound traditional friendship. Since the establishment of diplomatic ties 37 years ago, the two countries have treated each other with mutual respect and equality and their friendly and cooperative relations have maintained steady and healthy development. Both sides have seen closer high-level exchanges, increasing political trust, fruitful pragmatic cooperation in the fields of trade, culture, education, health, science and technology and communication and coordination in international affairs. The Chinese side appreciates Botswana's adherence to the one-China policy. China is willing to encourage its competent enterprises to increase investment in infrastructure construction, manufacturing, mining, agriculture and other fields in Botswana based on the country's long-term development strategy, constantly improve the level of bilateral economic and trade cooperation and make greater contributions to the development of bilateral relations.

The two sides also had an in-depth exchange of views on African and international hotspot issues.
