Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Xu Jinghu Attends the Presidential Inauguration of President Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi of Botswana

On November 1, 2019, on behalf of the Chinese side, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Xu Jinghu attended the presidential inauguration of President Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi of Botswana in Gaborone, capital of Botswana.

After the inauguration, Special Representative Xu Jinghu met with President Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi at the international conference center. She conveyed President Xi Jinping's sincere greetings to Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi, and on behalf of the Chinese side, extended warm congratulations to President Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi on his re-election. Speaking positively of Botswana's economic and social development achievements and China-Botswana friendly and cooperative relations, Xu Jinghu said that the Chinese side is ready to work with the new government of Botswana to enhance political mutual trust, strengthen practical cooperation and jointly push China-Botswana relations to a higher level by implementing the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi thanked the Chinese side for sending a representative to attend the inauguration and expressed satisfaction with the substantial development of Botswana-China relations in recent years. He stressed that China is an important partner of Botswana in its development and construction. The Botswana side is willing to continue to deepen exchanges and cooperation with the Chinese side in various fields to push for more in-depth development of bilateral relations.

On the morning of the same day, the Botswana government held a grand inauguration for the new President at the gymnasium of the University of Botswana. President Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi delivered his inaugural speech, comprehensively expounding the administrative programs during his new term and calling on the people of the whole country to work together to realize the Vision 2036. More than 5,000 people were present at the inauguration, including President of Zimbabwe, President of Mozambique and President of Zambia, senior officials of the Botswana government, former political heavyweights of Botswana, diplomatic envoys of various countries to Botswana, as well as representatives from all walks of life and the general public of Botswana.
