On December 2, 2014, Foreign Minister Wang Yi held talks with visiting Foreign Minister Jorge Tolentino Araújo of Cape Verde in Beijing.

Wang Yi said that it is an important tradition of major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics to adhere to equality between big and small countries and to enhance solidarity and cooperation with developing countries. The Chinese side will uphold and carry forward this tradition, and highly value and actively promote China-Cape Verde relations. The Chinese side appreciates Cape Verde's willingness to view relations with China from a long-term and strategic perspective. Both sides should further consolidate and deepen political mutual trust, give priority to strengthening the mutually beneficial cooperation in such fields as agriculture, marine economy, health care, education and human resources development, deepen the coordination and cooperation between the two countries on international and regional affairs and safeguard the common interests of developing countries.

Tolentino expressed that Cape Verde has leaped from one of the least developed countries to a middle-income country, which is inseparable from China's long-term and firm support. Cape Verde attaches great importance to developing relations with China and firmly adheres to the One-China policy. It looks forward to fully deepening Cape Verde-China cooperation, pushing the bilateral relations to a new level.

Following the talks, Wang Yi and Tolentino jointly signed an agreement between the two countries on mutual visa exemption for holders of diplomatic and service passports.
