Yang Jiechi Meets with His Equatorial Guinean Counterpart

On May 26, 2011, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met in the Foreign Ministry with Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Cooperation and Affairs for French-speaking Countries of Equatorial Guinea Pastor Micha, who is paying an unofficial visit to China.

China-Equatorial Guinea relations have enjoyed sound and steady development in recent years and bilateral cooperation has continuously broadened and achieved new outcomes in all areas, Yang said. China is willing to work together with Equatorial Guinea to explore their potential for cooperation based on the existing basis, uplift the level of cooperation and push bilateral friendly cooperation for in-depth development, Yang said.

Micha said the Equatorial Guinean government attaches great importance to developing its relations with China and considers China to be its most important cooperative partner. Bilateral relations have developed rapidly in recent years and the outcomes of cooperation are obvious to all. Equatorial Guinea is satisfied with the development of bilateral relations. Equatorial Guinea appreciates the help China has given to the country’s economic and social development and is willing to deepen its cooperation with China in a variety of areas to push bilateral cooperation for more outcomes, Micha said.

Both sides also exchanged views on major international and regional issues of common concern.
