Chinese Government's Special Envoy Zhai Jun Meets with Foreign Minister of Equatorial Guinea Pastor Micha Ondo Bile

On June 25, 2011, Zhai Jun, the special envoy of the Chinese government and Vice Foreign Minister of China, met with Foreign Minister of Equatorial Guinea Pastor Micha Ondo Bile. Wang Shixiong, Chinese ambassador to Equatorial Guinea and Sun Baohong, Deputy Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Chinese Foreign Ministry were present at the meeting.

Zhai spoke highly of the friendly cooperative relations between China and Equatorial Guinea. He extended congratulations on the rapid economic growth of Equatorial Guinea in recent years and at the same time expressed best wishes for the success of the 17th African Union Summit soon to be held in Equatorial Guinea. He mentioned that it was his third visit to Equatorial Guinea and every time he felt clear changes in the country. He stressed that his participation in the African Union Summit as the special envoy of the Chinese government demonstrates the importance China attaches to developing relations with African countries, particularly with Equatorial Guinea. He felt pleased with the development of the bilateral friendly cooperative relations since China and Equatorial Guinea established diplomatic ties 41 years ago and with the expanding bilateral exchanges in the fields of trade and economy, science and technology as well as human resources training. He expressed confidence that the bilateral friendly cooperative relations will be raised to a higher level with the concerted efforts of both countries.

On behalf of the government of Equatorial Guinea, Pastor Micha Ondo Bile extended warm welcome to Zhai. He said that Equatorial Guinea has received strong support from the Chinese government for the upcoming African Union Summit. The international convention center where the Summit will be held and the concierge vehicles presented by the Chinese government are very helpful for Equatorial Guinea to host the event, which his government appreciates. African countries, Equatorial Guinea in particular, always remain friendly to China. The two sides support each other in international affairs and help each other to develop the economy, which serves as the role model of South-South cooperation. We should continue to strengthen such cooperative relations.

The two sides also exchanged opinions on the regional and international issues of common concern.
