On October 15, 2020, President Xi Jinping exchanged congratulatory messages with President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations.

Xi Jinping pointed out in his messages that China and Equatorial Guinea have a long history of profound friendship. Since the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations 50 years ago, both countries have been treating each other in a sincere and friendly manner, no matter how the world changes. China and Equatorial Guinea firmly support each other on issues involving each other's core interests and major concerns and have carried out pragmatic cooperation yielding fruitful outcomes and delivering real benefits to the two peoples. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, China has been working with African countries including Equatorial Guinea to combat the pandemic and safeguard the lives and health of all, adding new dimensions to their friendship. China attaches great importance to the development of China-Equatorial Guinea relationship and looks forward to taking the 50th anniversary as a good opportunity to work with President Teodoro Obiang to consolidate political mutual trust and enrich practical collaboration under the Belt and Road Initiative and within the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, so as to bring the bilateral relations to a new level and create benefits to the two sides and their people.
