Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing Holds Talks with His Eritrean Counterpart

On the morning of June 1, 2004, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing held talks at the office building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Ali Said Abdella, visiting Foreign Minister of the State of Eritrea.

Li Zhaoxing made positive comments on the fruitful cooperation between the two countries in such areas as political affairs, economy and trade, education, culture and health since the establishment of their diplomatic ties. Expressing gratitude to the government of Eritrea for its precious support for China on issues related to Taiwan and human rights, Li said that the Chinese government stands ready to enhance exchanges with Eritrea, boost mutual trust, expand cooperation and push relations between the two countries towards continuous development on a sound and stable track.

Ali thanked China for its support and help over the years, saying that the Eritrean government and people cherish the friendship between the two countries and hope to expand cooperation with China in all areas. He reiterated that Eritrea would continue to adhere to the one-China position.

Following the talks, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing held a welcome banquet for Foreign Minister Ali.
