Li Zhaoxing Meets with Foreign Ministers of Cote d'Ivoire, Eritrea and Somalia

On April 22, Chinese Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing, who is accompanying Chinese President Hu Jintao to attend the 2005 Asian-African Summit met with Foreign Minister Mamadou Bamba of Cote d'Ivoire, Foreign Minister Ali Said Abdella of Eritrea and Foreign Minister Ismail Mohamoud of Somalia Transitional Federal Government respectively in Jakarta, capital of Indonesia.

Li and Bamba expressed gladness over the steady development of China-Cote d'Ivoire friendly cooperative relations, noting that they will make joint efforts to strengthen coordination and collaboration in international affairs. Bamba said that the Cote d'Ivoire government welcomes Chinese businesses to participate in the economic reconstruction of the country and reiterated that the Cote d'Ivoire government pursues the one-China policy and supports China's reunification and the Anti-Secession Law adopted by the National People's Congress of China.

During meeting with Ali, Li extended gratitude to the Eritrean government for its support on the issues of Taiwan and human rights. Both sides agreed to further expand bilateral exchanges and cooperation in such areas as economy, education, health and culture and exchanged opinions on a number of international and regional issues including the reform of the UN.

Li expressed hope to Ismail that the peace process in Somalia moves ahead steadily and the reconstruction of the country starts at the earliest date possible. Ismail thanked China for its support for Somalia's peace process and assistance to Somalia after the outbreak of the Indian Ocean tsunami disaster. Both sides agreed to strengthen exchanges and cooperation to constantly push forward the traditional friendship between the two countries.
