Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi Holds Talks with His Eritrean Counterpart Osman

On June 9, 2011, Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with his visiting Eritrean counterpart Osman Saleh Mohammed.

Yang said both sides have always been committed to deepening traditional friendship since the establishment of diplomatic ties 18 years ago, citing strengthened political trust and sound growth momentum of friendly cooperation in various areas. Yang appreciated Eritrea's firm support for China on issues concerning the country's core interests. China cherishes the friendship with Eritrea and is ready to make joint efforts with Eritrea to push bilateral ties to a higher level.

Osman spoke highly of Eritrea's traditional friendship with China, saying his country thanks for China's sincere assistance for Eritrea's national construction. He said Eritrea appreciates China's important role in global affairs, adding Eritrea would like to further consolidate and develop win-win cooperation with China in all fields.

The two foreign ministers also exchanged views on the situation in Africa and other international and regional issues of common concern.
