Wang Yi: Carry Forward Traditional Friendship and Break New Ground for China-Africa Cooperation

On June 25, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Foreign Minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey of Ghana, Foreign Minister Sam Kutesa of Uganda, Foreign Minister Mohamed Taha Siala of Libya and Head of Economic Affairs of the People's Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ) Hagos Ghebrehiwet of Eritrea respectively.

Wang Yi expressed that all countries in the world are entitled to development rights, adding that the 21st century is for developing countries to realize rejuvenation. Through collective cooperation that is fair and open, China and Africa have realized coordinated development, which carries great significance for promoting world peace and prosperity. By hosting the Coordinators' Meeting on the Implementation of the Follow-up Actions of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on the China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), China aims to, together with African countries, strengthen coordination and integration, build consensus, carry forward traditional friendship and break new ground for China-Africa cooperation. China has, in its cooperation with Africa, all along combined its own development with the development of Africa and kept its door open. African countries are welcome to share China's development opportunities. We are ready to work with the African side to gradually push bilateral cooperation toward market operation, upgrading of capacity cooperation and investment operation, so as to achieve high-quality and sustainable development.

Foreign Minister of Ghana expressed that thanks to the extraordinary leadership of President Xi Jinping, Ghana-China relations and Africa-China relations have been growing increasingly close and friendly and have been widely praised by the people of various African countries. Such momentum demonstrates the good prospect of the common development of both sides, and also brings Africa-China community of shared future even closer. Ghana is willing to work with the Chinese side to enhance mutual support, deepen cooperation and improve people's livelihood.

Foreign Minister of Uganda expressed that Uganda and China enjoy profound traditional friendship and robust bilateral relations. The Ugandan side is willing to join hands with the Chinese side to implement the outcomes of the FOCAC Beijing Summit, propel the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, boost sustainable development and jointly safeguard multilateralism and free trade.

Foreign Minister of Libya said that the Libyan side values relations with China and actively participates in the cooperation in the Belt and Road Initiative. The Libyan side hopes to solve the Libyan issue through political measures and establish a non-military and democratic country. Chinese enterprises are welcome to actively participate in the reconstruction of Libya.

Head of the PFDJ Economic Affairs of Eritrea congratulated China on the tremendous achievements the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government have made in the past 70 years which are China's major contributions to the world. Building a community with a shared future for mankind put forward by President Xi Jinping is our shared goal. China has offered selfless help to the African side through the FOCAC and the Belt and Road Initiative. The Eritrean side is committed to deepening bilateral practical cooperation to realize common development.

After the meeting, Wang Yi and Foreign Minister of Ghana witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation agreements together.
