On December 11, 2020, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Deng Li met with Ethiopian Ambassador to China Teshome Toga Chanaka. The two sides exchanged views on China-Ethiopia relations and issues of common concern.

Deng Li said that China and Ethiopia are good friends and partners. The two countries maintain frequent high-level exchanges and strong political mutual trust, and our bilateral cooperation in various fields lies at the forefront of China-Africa cooperation. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Ethiopia. China is willing to work with Ethiopia to take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations as an opportunity to intensify exchanges in various fields and push the bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership to a new level.

Teshome said that China is one of Ethiopia's most important partners, and the friendly cooperation between the two countries has injected strong impetus into Ethiopia's rapid economic growth in recent years. The Ethiopian side expresses its deep gratitude to China for its anti-epidemic support and is willing to work with China to implement the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, strengthen "Belt and Road" cooperation, and promote greater development of the bilateral relations.
