On May 21, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with visiting Gabonese Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Jean Ping.

Yang said bilateral ties have been developing very well over the years, which can be seen in growing political trust, sincere economic cooperation, and close cooperation in international affairs. He added that the China-Gabon friendship is deeply rooted in the hearts of both peoples. Hailing the Gabonese government's adherence to the one-China policy, Yang said China is ready to join hands with Gabon to maintain high-level visits, deepen trade cooperation and push the friendly cooperative ties to a new level.

Jean Ping said his government treasures its friendly ties with China, and hopes to deepen bilateral cooperation in various areas to promote greater progress of China- Gabon and China-Africa ties. Jean reaffirmed said his government will continue to stick to the one-China policy.

They also exchanged views on major international issues of common concern.
