On April 12, 2016 local time, Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Yu Zhengsheng, who was in Gabon for an official goodwill visit, met in Libreville with President of the National Assembly Richard Onouviet of Gabon.

Yu Zhengsheng firstly conveyed the warm greetings from Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress Zhang Dejiang. Yu Zhengsheng said China and Gabon enjoy a good relationship, and both sides have conducted close communication in governance and administration of state affairs. Since the implementation of the reform and opening up policy over 30 years ago, China has maintained political and social stability, focused on economic development, and made remarkable achievements in construction. People's living standard has generally improved as well. Gabon has maintained a sound momentum of development for several years with priority in political stability and continuous improvement of the people's living standard. China is willing to strengthen friendly exchanges with the Gabonese National Assembly to further conduct exchanges and mutual learning on state governance, national development as well as other aspects.

Yu Zhengsheng pointed out that at present, both sides are dedicated to implementing the outcomes of the Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in Johannesburg, and strengthening cooperation in various fields, especially the economic and trade cooperation. Both countries should focus on giving play to the initiative and creativity of both enterprises, bring the government departments into a better role in guidance and supervision, and further enhance the docking of strategy and policy coordination, so as to provide a better environment for both enterprises to strengthen cooperation for the sake of faster and better development of China-Gabon economic and trade cooperation. Enterprises from both countries should abide by local laws and contribute to local economic and social development. It is hoped that the Gabonese National Assembly can continue supporting both enterprises to beef up investment and project cooperation.

Richard Onouviet expressed that Gabon and China enjoy a deep friendship with extensive, plentiful and fruitful practical cooperation. China has participated and supported major projects in areas including energy, resources and infrastructure in Gabon, and offered selfless help in such areas as health and education. The Gabonese National Assembly pays high attention to its relations with China, and actively supports both enterprises to carry out cooperation. It is expected that the bilateral economic and trade cooperation could be more extensive and intensive and achieve more key results so as to play a greater role in promoting the Gabonese economic and social development.
