On July 29, 2016, Foreign Minister Wang Yi met in Beijing with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cooperation, Francophonie and Regional Integration Emmanuel Issoze Ngondet of Gabon, who was in China for the Coordinators' Meeting of the Implementation of the Follow-up Actions of the Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Wang Yi noted that treasuring the China-Gabon traditional friendship forged by the older generations of leaders of the two countries, China is willing to further deepen friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation in various fields with Gabon, so as to achieve mutual benefit, win-win results and common development. China supports Gabon to independently choose a development path conforming to its national conditions, and stands ready to, together with Gabon, discuss on new models for mutually beneficial cooperation and promote the quality improvement and upgrade of bilateral cooperation. China also stands ready to help Gabon improve its self-development capability.

Speaking positively of Gabon-China as well as Africa-China relations, Emmanuel Issoze Ngondet highly appreciated China’s initiative to hold the Coordinators' Meeting of the Implementation of the Follow-up Actions of the FOCAC Johannesburg Summit. He said that Gabon attaches great importance to developing relations with China, supports China’s principles and stance as well as just proposition on the settlement of the South China Sea issue and stands ready to consolidate friendship and elevate cooperation level with China. Gabon welcomes Chinese enterprises to invest in the country.

Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional topics of common interest.
