On December 19, 2018, Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong met with outgoing Kenyan Ambassador to China Michael Kinyanjui.

Chen Xiaodong spoke positively of Michael Kinyanjui's efforts in and contributions to pushing the development of China-Kenya relations and friendly cooperation in various fields during his term of office, and hoped that he would continuously care for and support the development of bilateral relations. Michael Kinyanjui spoke highly of Kenya-China relations, thanked the Chinese side for providing strong support for his fulfillment of duty and expressed that he would continue to contribute to the friendship between Kenya and China. Both sides also exchanged views on issues of common concern.
