On January 16, 2019, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Xu Jinghu, who was on a friendly visit to Kenya, met in Nairobi with Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Monica Juma of Kenya. Li Xuhang, Charge d'Affaires a.i. of the Chinese Embassy in Kenya, attended the meeting.

Special Representative Xu Jinghu said that in recent years, under the joint care and promotion of President Xi Jinping and President Uhuru Kenyatta, China-Kenya relations have achieved rapid development with great achievements from cooperation in various fields, and bilateral relations are at the best period in history. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen communication and coordination with the Kenyan side, well implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state on developing bilateral relations, and make sure the results of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) will be implemented in Kenya in an orderly and efficient way, so as to push comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries for constant and forward-looking development. Special Representative Xu Jinghu also extended condolences to Monica Juma over the terrorist attack in Nairobi happened on January 15, which caused heavy casualties, and thanked the Kenyan side's efforts in successfully rescuing the trapped Chinese citizens.

Monica Juma thanked the Chinese side for the sincere condolences to the Kenyan side over the terrorist attack and for standing together with the Kenyan side firmly when Kenya was in difficulties. Highly appreciating the fruitful achievements of the FOCAC Beijing Summit, she expressed the willingness to strengthen integration and planning with the Chinese side and jointly formulate feasible implementation plans. Monica Juma expressed that the Kenyan side attaches great importance to developing its friendly and cooperative relations with China, and is willing to further enhance cooperation in various fields with the Chinese side.
