On April 25, 2019, President Xi Jinping met with President Uhuru Kenyatta of Kenya at the Great Hall of the People.

Xi Jinping pointed out that Mr. President and I have met three times in less than a year, which embodied the strategic significance and high level of China-Kenya relations. The Chinese side appreciates Mr. President's public refutation of groundless accusations against China-Kenya and China-Africa cooperation on many occasions. Kenya is among the first countries to sign a memorandum of understanding on jointly building the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) with the Chinese side. The Chinese side is willing to take the joint construction of the BRI and the implementation of the outcomes achieved at the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation as opportunities to work together with the Kenyan side to well maintain the good momentum of cooperation in various areas between the two countries as well as between China and Africa, strengthen the alignment of development strategies, leverage the economic and social benefits of major projects such as railways, and encourage more Chinese enterprises to invest in Kenya. Both sides should also maintain communication and coordination on major international and regional issues.

Uhuru Kenyatta expressed his warm congratulations on the great achievements the People's Republic of China has made since its founding 70 years ago, with over 700 million people lifted out of poverty in particular. The BRI enables various countries in the world to build closer trade connections and partnerships, earning wide recognition from the international community and driving connectivity and industrialization for African countries. The Kenyan side is willing to deepen cooperation with the Chinese side in such fields as infrastructure construction to promote the BRI further to the central and western African regions. Appreciating the Chinese side's important role in promoting peace and reconstruction in Africa, the Kenyan side hopes to strengthen communication and coordination with the Chinese side on regional and multilateral affairs.

After the meeting, the two heads of state jointly witnessed the signing of bilateral cooperation documents.

Ding Xuexiang, Yang Jiechi, Wang Yi and He Lifeng attended the meeting.
