State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a Phone Call with Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Raychelle Omamo

On 18 August, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi spoke with Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Raychelle Omamo on the phone.

Noting Kenya as China’s strategic partner in Africa, Wang highlighted mutual understanding, mutual trust and mutual support as the defining features of China-Kenya relations. Under the leadership of the two Presidents, bilateral cooperation has been setting the pace in China-Africa cooperation. China appreciates Kenya’s firm support on issues concerning China’s core interests including Taiwan and Hong Kong. Wang reaffirmed China’s support for Kenya’s bigger role in regional and international affairs, and readiness to step up coordination and collaboration with Kenya, jointly uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter, advocate multilateralism, reject unilateralism and bullying acts, and safeguard the common interests of developing countries and international fairness and justice.

Omamo expressed Kenya’s deep appreciation for China’s strong support for its COVID-19 response and national development, and hailed China as Africa’s vital political, trading and development partner. She reiterated Kenya’s firm commitment to the one-China principle and firm support for China in defending its sovereignty, and that Kenya will continue to work with China to uphold the core values of multilateralism.

The two sides also exchanged views on the UN, the WTO and other matters.
