China's Special Envoy to the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation Zhou Yuxiao Calls on President of Liberia

On May 22, 2015, China's Special Envoy to the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Ambassador Zhou Yuxiao, who was paying a visit to Liberia, called on President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf of Liberia. Foreign Minister of Liberia and H.E. Zhang Yue, Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, attended the meeting.

Special Envoy Zhou Yuxiao conveyed President Xi Jinping's sincere greetings and best wishes to President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and expressed congratulations on the victory achieved by the Liberian government and people over the Ebola epidemic. Special Envoy Zhou Yuxiao said that, in recent years, China-Liberia relations have achieved comprehensive, rapid and in-depth development, with constantly increased political mutual trust, remarkable achievements of friendly cooperation in various fields, and continuously deepened understanding and friendship between both peoples. After the outbreak of the Ebola epidemic in Liberia, China took the lead to lend a hand and sent a large number of anti-Ebola aid by special plane. As Liberia's biggest trading partner and project contractor, China will support Liberia in its "post-Ebola" economic and social reconstruction as always and further deepen the mutually beneficial and friendly cooperation in various fields. The FOCAC is an important platform for cooperation between China and Africa. China and Liberia are highly complementary in economy and thus have huge potentials for cooperation. The Chinese side is willing to work with Liberia to strengthen cooperation within the framework of the Forum. China will fully implement the working policy of "sincerity, real results, affinity and good faith" towards Africa and correct viewpoints of righteousness and benefit proposed by President Xi Jinping and earnestly carry out the initiatives of "Six Major Projects" and "Three Networks and Industrialization" between China and Africa proposed by Premier Li Keqiang, so as to push China-Liberia relations to a higher level and better benefit the two peoples. The Chinese side is grateful to the Liberian side for its long-standing firm support to China in international affairs, and is willing to continue to maintain close coordination and cooperation with the Liberian side to jointly promote the international order towards a more just and reasonable direction.

President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf warmly welcomed former Chinese Ambassador to Liberia Zhou Yuxiao's visit to the country as China's Special Envoy to the FOCAC. and also asked him to convey her sincere greetings and best wishes to President Xi Jinping. President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf expressed that Liberia-China relations enjoy a sound development momentum, with enhanced political mutual trust, closer economic and trade exchanges, and further deepened cooperation in various fields. Liberia cannot achieve a rapid development without China's contribution. Especially after the outbreak of the Ebola epidemic, China took the lead to offer substantial and timely aid to Liberia, making an important contribution to the final victory of Liberian side over the epidemic, to which the Liberian government and people are deeply grateful. In the post-Ebola period, the Liberian side is willing to strengthen cooperation with China in various fields and hopes that more and more Chinese enterprises will invest and expand business in Liberia to achieve mutual benefit and win-win results. Liberia is willing to maintain communication and coordination with China and jointly and earnestly prepare for the sixth ministerial meeting of the FOCAC. Liberia is grateful to China for speaking out from a sense of justice for developing countries in the international arena. Liberia is willing to continue to strengthen exchanges, communication and coordination with China on relevant international and regional issues.

On the same day, Special Envoy Zhou Yuxiao held talks with Foreign Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan of Liberia. The two sides exchanged broad views on bilateral relations, the preparation work for the sixth ministerial meeting of the FOCAC and international and regional topics of common interest. Deputy Foreign Minister of Liberia and Assistant Foreign Minister in charge of economic cooperation and Asian and African affairs were present at the talks.
