Chairman Jia Qinglin of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) Meets with Madagascan Senate Speaker

On July 3, 2006, Chairman Jia Qinglin of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) met with Madagascan Senate Speaker Guy Rajemison Rakotomaharo in the Great Hall of the People.

Jia welcomed Rajemison to head the Madagascan Senate delegation to visit China. He said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties 34 years ago, bilateral relations have been developing steadily with mutual political trust growing continuously. Both sides have deepened their pragmatic cooperation and exchange in the areas of economy, trade, culture and tourism and maintained close consultation and coordination in international affairs. Jia noted that both China and Madagascar are developing nations and shoulder the heavy task of developing economy and improving people's livelihood. It is in the fundamental interest of the two peoples to further strengthen their unity and cooperation and promote common development. China appreciates the Madagascan government and parliament for resolutely pursuing the one-China policy and supporting China's grand cause of peaceful reunification.

Jia briefed the guests on the function of the CPPCC, indicating that the CPPCC is ready to enhance exchange and cooperation with the Madagascan Senate and make new contributions to further developing bilateral friendly relations and building up the friendship between the two peoples.

Rajemison spoke highly of China's enormous achievements in reform, opening up and modernization drive, expressing his country's hope to learn from China's experience and work with China to boost bilateral friendly cooperation in the fields of agriculture, tourism and energy. He added that the Madagascan Senate is ready to further reinforce exchange and contact with the CPPCC and make efforts to the development of bilateral friendly ties. Rajemison said that Taiwan is part of China and his country firmly adheres to the one-China policy and hopes to see China's peaceful reunification at an early date.
