Wu Bangguo Meets with Madagascan Senate Speaker Rajemison

On July 3, 2006, Chairman Wu Bangguo of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC) of China met with Madagascan Senate Speaker Guy Rajemison Rakotomaharo in the Great Hall of the People.

Wu said that since the establishment of diplomatic ties, bilateral relations have been developing smoothly with all areas of exchange including personnel contact at various levels increasingly continuously and bilateral cooperation has also been deepened, which has brought tangible benefit to the two countries and their people. China is ready to make concerted efforts with Madagascar to maintain high-level exchange, build up mutual political trust, expand mutually beneficial cooperation, promote humanities exchange and strengthen consultation and coordination in international affairs in a bid to advance bilateral ties. Wu appreciated the Madagascan side for adhering to the one-China policy and supporting China on human rights and other questions.

Wu noted that the exchange and cooperation between the two legislatures are an important part of bilateral ties. The NPC of China is ready to enhance contact with the Madagascan parliament and actively conduct exchanges between the special committees to learn from each other and build up mutual understanding with a view to boosting bilateral friendly cooperation in all areas.

Wu emphasized that China attaches great importance to developing China-Africa relations and is willing to work with African nations including Madagascar to further build up the traditional friendship, expand mutually beneficial cooperation and strengthen international consultation to develop a new type of China-Africa strategic partnership featuring political equality and mutual trust, win-win economic cooperation and cultural exchange.

Rajemison indicated that the bilateral friendship goes back to ancient times and in recent years the two countries have strengthened their cooperation in the areas of politics, economy, trade and culture. The Madagascan Senate is ready to strengthen exchange and cooperation with the NPC of China to promote the in-depth development of their existing friendly relations and cooperation for the benefit of the two peoples. Rajemison reaffirmed Madagascar's adherence to the one-China principle and support for China's grand cause of peaceful reunification.
