On June 23, 2019, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Foreign Minister Andriantsitohaina Franck Michel Niaina of Madagascar in Beijing.

Wang Yi noted that China and Madagascar are friendly cooperative partners. Mr. Foreign Minister once pointed out that China is Madagascar's true friend and partner, which we fully agree. This has been proved by the practice in the past, and will be continuously proved by the practice in the future. As China develops, China is willing to make even greater contributions to international peace and development. In the mean time, as the largest developing country, China always stands together with developing countries in international affairs, and with small and medium-sized countries. We will continue to support the Madagascan side's efforts in safeguarding national independence and sovereignty and legitimate appeals in multilateral occasions.

Wang Yi said that the Chinese side supports the new government led by President Andry Rajoelina in realizing all governance goals. The Chinese side is willing to push for the effective alignment among the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, the implementation of the outcomes of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and Initiative Emergence Madagascar, and deepen cooperation with the Madagascan side in areas including investment, energy, infrastructure construction, agriculture and epidemic prevention. The Chinese side always supports multilateralism, and upholds that all countries, big or small, are equal. The Chinese side is ready to strengthen cooperation in multilateral affairs with the Madagascan side to safeguard the interests of the vast number of developing countries, including African countries.

Andriantsitohaina Franck Michel Niaina said that Madagascar highly values its relations with China and supports the one-China principle, and thanked the Chinese side for the support for the new government of Madagascar. Unlike those who are accustomed to pointing fingers to other countries, China is a sincere partner of African countries. The Madagascan side is committed to deepening cooperation in various fields including trade and investment with the Chinese side. Multilateralism is the only solution to problems in the world. As Madagascar and China share similar position in many major international issues and multilateral affairs, the Madagascan side is willing to continue the firm mutual support with the Chinese side.

After the meeting, both sides witnessed the signing of multiple bilateral cooperation agreements together.
