On February 2, 2016 local time, President Ameenah Gurib-Fakim of Mauritius met with Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the presidential palace in Port Louis.

Ameenah Gurib-Fakim expressed that Mauritius-China relations and Africa-China relations are very close. Mauritius will further consolidate traditional friendship with China and enhance bilateral cooperation in such fields as maritime economy, agriculture, health care and addressing climate change, which is crucial to Mauritius's development. Besides, Mauritius will boost people-to-people and cultural exchanges with China to constantly intensify the friendship between the two peoples. Mauritius speaks highly of the outcome of Johannesburg Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC). Africa-China cooperation is in the common interests of both sides and Mauritius will take an active part in it.

Wang Yi spoke positively of Ameenah Gurib-Fakim's role in the successful holding of the FOCAC Johannesburg Summit. He said that China has comprehensively launched the ten China-Africa cooperation plans put forward by President Xi Jinping. His visit to Mauritius this time is to explore ways to fully leverage Mauritius's unique geographic advantages to open up a new prospect for China-Mauritius mutually beneficial cooperation in the process of implementing the ten cooperation plans. Both sides can expand their cooperation westward to the African continent, and build Mauritius into a platform for Chinese enterprises, personnel, capital and technologies to enter Africa and thus help the country realize its second economic miracle. Both sides can also expand their cooperation eastward to Asia, especially to China, and enhance maritime cooperation and deepen cooperation in such fields as tourism and aviation so as to realize common development between China and Mauritius and between China and Africa in the trend of silk road revitalization.
