Wang Yi Meets with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo of Mauritius

On July 28, 2018 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who was accompanying President Xi Jinping during his stopover in Mauritius for a friendly visit, met at request with Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo of Mauritius.

Wang Yi said that President Xi Jinping's visit to Mauritius in his first overseas trip after he was elected as Chinese President shows that the Chinese side has attached great importance to developing its relations with Mauritius, which will increase mutual trust between the two countries and boost bilateral cooperation, and thus is of milestone significance in the history of the bilateral relations. The two sides should strengthen alignment to make sure that the consensus reached by leaders of the two countries is implemented and to promote China-Mauritius relations for sustained and in-depth development. The Mauritian side's active participation in the joint building of the Belt and Road Initiative will create new space for the mutually beneficial cooperation between China and Mauritius. The Chinese side looks forward to working with the African member states of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), including Mauritius, to ensure the FOCAC Beijing Summit a complete success.

Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo expressed that the Mauritian side stands ready to, together with the Chinese side, jointly well implement the outcomes of President Xi Jinping's visit this time. The Mauritian side firmly upholds the one-China policy, fully supports the Belt and Road Initiative and is willing to negotiate and sign a bilateral free trade agreement with the Chinese side at an early date. The Mauritian side eagerly looks forward to attending the upcoming FOCAC Beijing Summit.
