On January 5, 2012, visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi held talks with his Namibian counterpart, Utoni Nujoma, in Windhoek.

Yang spoke highly of bilateral ties, saying that in recent years, both sides have maintained frequent high-level exchanges, fruitful pragmatic cooperation, dynamic cultural exchanges and mutual support in international affairs. Bilateral relations have great potential and broad prospects for development. Yang said that China attaches great importance to its ties with Namibia and stands ready to make concerted efforts with Namibia to implement the consensus reached by leaders of the two nations on further advancement of their relations, cement their traditional friendship and promote political trust. He urged both sides to deepen economic and trade cooperation, realize mutual benefit and a win-win situation, strengthen cultural exchanges, promote people-to-people friendship and deepen all-round friendly and cooperative relations. To strengthen China-Africa friendly cooperative relations is an important bedrock of China's foreign policy and a long-term and firm strategic choice, said Yang. China is willing to work with African nations, including Namibia, to make preparations for the fifth ministerial meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation to be held in China later this year and further promote the development of the new-type China-Africa strategic partnership, said the Chinese foreign minister.

Nujoma, for his part, said that China enjoys a special status in the hearts of African people. The friendly relations between the two countries have a long history and the two countries have made steady progress in their cooperation, which has exerted a positive impact on Namibia's socioeconomic development, he said. The Namibian government will firmly adhere to the one-China policy and is committed to mutually beneficial cooperation with China in a broad range of areas, such as politics, economy and trade, culture and infrastructure, said Nujoma. He expressed the hope for more Chinese investments in Namibia. Namibia is willing to strengthen the friendship with China within the framework of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation to jointly promote Africa-China cooperation.

They also exchanged views on international and regional affairs of common concern. Yang arrived in Windhoek on the evening of January 4 for an official visit to Namibia.
