On the morning of August 24, 2023 local time, President Xi Jinping met with Namibian President Hage Geingob on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit in Johannesburg.

Xi Jinping noted that President Geingob is an old friend of the Chinese people, who has deep affection for China. The Chinese side greatly appreciates President Geingob's firm support for China's position on issues concerning China’s core interests, and commends him for speaking out for justice in international affairs. China stands ready to strengthen cooperation with Namibia in various fields, including clean energy, encourage Chinese enterprises to invest and do business in Namibia,and keep close communication with Namibia to deepen bilateral relations across the board.

Xi Jinping pointed out that having similar historical experiences and struggles, China and Africa have heart-to-heart affinity. China stands for equality and mutual respect among all countries, regardless of their size. While leading the Chinese people in blazing a path of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the Communist Party of China has been working hard to advance the building of a community with a shared future for mankind, putting forth a series of initiatives like the Belt and Road Initiative, to help developing countries achieve common development and prosperity and strive for more equal rights for developing world.

Geingob said Namibia and China enjoy a time-honored friendship. China is an all-weather friend, and, more importantly, a friend they can count on at difficulties. Namibia is sincerely grateful for China's firm support to the country in its fight for national independence and liberation and its various causes for national development. He said as a major country’s leader, President Xi has led his people to remarkable achievements, yet he is very modest treating African leaders as equals and with humility, which is truly touching. The Namibian side has been greatly inspired by the Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, and is exploring a modernization path with Namibian characteristics. Namibia firmly supports China, welcomes Chinese enterprises to Namibia for investment and cooperation, and stands ready to work with China for greater development of Namibia-China relations.
