Over the past more than three decades since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the two countries have always followed the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and shown mutual understanding, trust and support to each other. The two sides have established an all-round cooperative partnership featuring long-term friendship, equality and mutual benefit. The bilateral relations have been in sound and smooth development in spite of the changes in the two countries or in the international arena," Hu said. The Bangladeshi government has kept friendly relations with China, and has always taken its ties with China as a top priority and been a firm supporter to China on issues concerning Taiwan and Tibet, he said. Hu said the Chinese people are indebted to the Bangladeshi government and people who sent relief assistance to China's earthquake-hit Sichuan province despite their own economic difficulties and set a national mourning day to share the Chinese people's mourning of the quake victims.

"China attaches great importance to its friendly relations with Bangladesh, and is ready to expand pragmatic cooperation on politics, economy, science and technology, agriculture and humanities and enhance coordination and cooperation in international affairs, so as to advance the all-round cooperative partnership," Hu said.

Fakhruddin commended China on hosting a grand and successful Olympics, and said the Beijing Paralympics showed the Chinese government's caring for the disabled people. He warmly congratulated the Chinese government and people on their successful hosting of the two great events. The Chinese and the people in Bangladesh are trustworthy good friends, Fakhruddin said, noting that bilateral cooperation on economy, agriculture, culture and education has been expanding since the establishment of diplomatic ties over three decades ago. He expressed hope that both countries can deepen cooperation in trade, investment, development of special economic zone, education and personnel training and keep closer consultations and cooperation in international and regional affairs. Fakhruddin also reaffirmed his country's adherence to the one-China policy.
