Wang Yi: China Is Duty-Bound to Help Africa Combat Ebola

2015-08-09 14:26

On August 8 local time, while visiting Sierra Leone, Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed that China is duty-bound to help Africa combat the Ebola epidemic.

Wang Yi said that China and Africa have always supported and helped each other. In history, African brothers helped China restore its lawful seat in the United Nations by speaking out from a sense of justice. Africa has always offered vigorous support to China on major issues concerning China's core interests. This kind of support should be mutual, and when African brothers are in danger, China would certainly lend a helping hand.

Wang Yi noted that China is a responsible major country. Though China is still the largest developing country, it is a permanent member of the UN Security Council and an upright major country. In face of the biggest public health crisis around the world, China must respond and contribute and cannot look on and do nothing.

Third, Wang Yi expressed that "putting people in the first place" is the governing philosophy of the Communist Party of China as well as the Chinese government. Life is the most precious thing for man. When visiting Africa in 2013, President Xi Jinping fully affirmed the contribution made by Chinese medical team for many years to protecting African people's life and health, and put forward the spirit "tenacity, sincere contribution, healing the wounded and rescuing the dead as well as boundless love" of Chinese medical team. This spirit has once again been best carried forward in the great test of combating the Ebola epidemic.
