2015-08-09 14:29

On August 8 local time, while visiting Sierra Leone, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at a press conference that when helping Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea combat the Ebola epidemic, China offered assistance in the first place, carried out the largest-scale public health assistance in history and created multiple "firsts". Chinese President Xi Jinping was the first to make positive response and then announced several rounds of assistance in person after the heads of the three states including Sierra Leone called for international assistance. The large chartered plane sent by China transported the first batch of urgent anti-epidemic materials most needed in the three countries. China for the first time sent systemic medical corps overseas, for the first time built a mobile bio-laboratory overseas and for the first time set up an infectious disease medical center in another country. The multiple "firsts" not only wrote a new chapter in the history of China-Africa friendship but also left a deep mark on the history of international assistance. China showed that it is a truly reliable friend of Sierra Leone as well as African people with its own actions.

Wang Yi said that when Sierra Leone was plagued by the Ebola epidemic, many international flights were grounded, while China's chartered plane Boeing 747, which flew half way around the world and crossed the three continents, transported urgently needed materials to the country; when foreign personnel were leaving Sierra Leone, China sent several batches of medical experts to the frontline to fight side by side with the people of Sierra Leone; when a large number of people felt disappointed about the future of Sierra Leone, China firmly believed that the people of Sierra Leone will surely overcome the epidemic with the help of the international community. Today, we can see that Sierra Leone has achieved a historic success. It is believed that Sierra Leone will completely defeat the epidemic soon and rise from the ashes like a phoenix.
