On August 8 local time, President Ernest Bai Koroma of Sierra Leone met with Foreign Minister Wang Yi in Freetown.

Wang Yi expressed his congratulations on the decisive victory of Sierra Leone in the fight against the Ebola under the leadership of President Ernest Bai Koroma and his confidence that Sierra Leone will certainly and radically eradicate the epidemic at an early date.

Wang Yi noted that China and Sierra Leone boast the good tradition of mutual assistance and mutual support. When Sierra Leone is in crisis, China should give its hands and provide help. The Chinese side will always stick to the three principles in helping Sierra Leone, namely, conform to the national conditions and development needs of Sierra Leone, enhance the self-development capacity of Sierra Leone and benefit its people. In the post-Ebola era and during the process in which Sierra Leone realizes its development goals on the Agenda for Prosperity, the Chinese side will continue to stand firmly with the people of Sierra Leone. The Chinese side is willing to enhance with Sierra Leone the cooperation in medical treatment and public health to help it establish and improve the public health system; enhance cooperation in the mining industry and production capacity with Sierra Leone to help it set up its industrial system; strengthen cooperation in agriculture and fishery with Sierra Leone to help it reinforce its food self-sufficiency system; enhance cooperation with Sierra Leone in the construction of infrastructure to help it improve its most-needed infrastructure system; and enhance cooperation with Sierra Leone in human resources development to help it establish the human resources security system.

Ernest Bai Koroma expressed that China's prompt and practical help contributed a great share in Sierra Leone's victory over Ebola in such a short time, which proved once again that China is as close as a brother to Sierra Leone. The Sierra Leonean government and people extend their sincere thanks to the Chinese leaders and Chinese people. Sierra Leone hopes that in the process of economic and social reconstruction in the post-Ebola era, it can still obtain strong support from China. The proposal put forward by the Chinese side to enhance cooperation in five preferential fields conforms fully with the development needs of Sierra Leone and is heartening. The Sierra Leonean side stands ready to launch the docking and implementation of them with the Chinese side as soon as possible.
